Basic and Professional Studies									112
The courses described in curricula are mainly compulsory. Up to some point the student can focus the assignments according to his/her own interests. The aim of basic studies is to provide the student with a comprehensive overall view of the position and significance of the field concerned within society and working life and in an international perspective, to familiarise the student with the general theoretical basis of the field and with communications, and to provide the student with the sufficient language proficiency necessary for practising the profession and for further professional development. (Vararehtorin päätös 13.10.2016 § 16) The aim of professional studies is to familiarise the student with the main problems and applications in the professional field concerned and their scientific or artistic basis in order to allow the student to work independently in the field in either expert duties or development work, or as entrepreneur. Communication Skills in Physiotherapy									15
Show/hide description The courses included in the study unit of communication skills are mandatory according to the curriculum. The student can present the language studies he has completed elsewhere for credit transfer. The Oamk language center is responsible for the acceptance criteria. Physiotherapy's core competencies include advising and guiding clients, versatile expert tasks and developing oneself and one's field. The physiotherapist gives and writes statements for many different purposes, produces materials for different purposes and maintains his professionalism by following both national and international research and recommendations.

The student may, in agreement with the teacher, plan the assignments according to his/her career plan. Physiotherapist is an expert in assessing and promoting one's movements and functional ability. He finds out his client's functional capacity with versatile assessment methods and clinical reasoning. He takes into account the strengths and limitations of both the client and his environment. The physiotherapist guides the client to prepare suitable rehabilitation goals for himself and to make a feasible plan for achieving the goals. The key methods of physiotherapy are physiotherapeutic examination and assessment skills, guidance and counselling skills and therapy skills.

Technological developments and environmental resources and constraints have a major impact on the individual's ability to function and participate. Changes in work and work environments and the information technology of work are shaping working life. Physiotherapists also take into account the ecological and ethical aspects of work.

As an expert in his or her field, a physiotherapist is aware of the national and international trends affecting society. Physiotherapy must be seen from the perspective of the individual, the service system and society. The physiotherapist's management skills require management skills at various levels. A physiotherapist can work at the local, middle or senior level of an organisation. Leadership skills include organisational skills, problem-solving skills, evaluation and decision-making skills and the ability to change. A physiotherapist is an innovative, visionary and critical knowledge manager. Physiotherapy services must be of high quality, relevant and effective for the client and delivered in a cost-effective manner. The physiotherapist is required to maintain and renew skills on an ongoing basis and to be entrepreneurial and market his/her own skills. Development skills for physiotherapists include research skills, the application of scientific knowledge and project work. Development work requires critical thinking skills and an investigative attitude.

Practical Training in Physiotherapy					75
Practical training (75 ECTS) consists of workshops at the campus, projects and clinical training. The student can choose the topic of the project and optional practical training according to his/her professional interest. The aim of practical training is to familiarize students with practical duties of major importance in relation to their professional studies, in particular, and with the application of knowledge and skills in working life under supervised conditions. (Vararehtorin päätös 13.10.2016 § 16) Practical training both at the campus and in working life. Objectives and subjects are described in course descriptions as part of basic and professional studies.
Bachelor's Thesis					15
The Bachelor's thesis is recommended to start after the half way of the studies. Research method studies should be done before starting the process. The aim of the Bachelor's thesis is to enhance and demonstrate the ability of students to apply their knowledge and skills in practical expert duties related to their professional studies.
