OF00DW41 Medical, Surgical and Psychiatric Physiotherapy (7 cr)
Prerequisites Competencies gained through courses of three first semester in Oamk curricula
Objectives The student knows the most common surgical operations and psychiatric and medical illnesses and factors increasing the risk for those. He/she knows most common medicine groups for those and is able to tell their side effects especially on functional capacity. The student knows the most common physiotherapy interventions used with patients in surgical, psychiatric, medical, intensive care and palliative care units. The student knows how to analyze and treat disturbed breathing.He/she knows the most common hospital diets and aids to assist nutrition. He/she know the risks of passive life style and bed rest and knows how to guide the patient in prevention of those.
Content 1. Internal medicine, surgery and psychitrics including medical care, 2 cr

2. Physiotherapy for patients with psychiatric and internal illnesses and after surgery, 3 cr

3. Workshop of physiotherapy for patients after surgical interventions and with internal illnesses, 1 cr

4. Workshop of physiotherapy for patients with psychiatric diseases, 1 cr

The student lists most common surgical operations and psychiatric and internal diseases and issues increasing the risk behind them. He/she recognizes some medicine and lists physiotherapy methods used with these patients. He/she lists means how to analyze and fasilitate disturbed breathing and nutrition. The student tells the most common risks of passive life style and bed rest both from an individual and national point of view..

The student tells examples of the most common surgical operations and internal and psychiatric diseases and factors increasing the prevalence of those and lists medicine used with these patients. The student tells and partly reasons what kind of physiotherapy interventions are suitable for them. He/she tells examples how to analyze and fasilitate disturbed breathing and nutrition. The student explains what are the risks of immobilization and bed rest. He/she gives examples how healthy living and nutrition promote public health.

The student describes what kind of changes the most common operations and internal and psychiatric diseases cause for functional capacity and widely overviews factors behind those diseases and limitations. The student explains what kind of impact medicines used have for functional capacity. He/she tells about physiotherapy interventions and reasons those with evidence based knowledge. He/she explains and gives examples how to analyze and assess disturbed breathing and nutrition. The student explains by using evidence based knowledge how nutrition and healthy life style promote public health and what is physiotherapy's role in that.

Parts 1 and 2 are assessed using 5 level scaling. Parts 3 and 4 are assessed passed/failed.
