The aim of the degree programme is to educate experts to the field of physiotherapy to promote and maintain the ability of clients and patients of various ages to move and maintain their abilities to act. The object of physiotherapy is to support the client to achieve his optimal health and abilities to move and act concerning his resources and possibilities offered by rehabilitation services. Physiotherapist's work is client centered and evidence based and often multiprofessional. The central object of education is to support student's ethical thinking, communication skills and capacity of multiprofessional teamwork. Also understanding the aspects of legislation, effectiveness and economy are impressed in education.
Physiotherapy is based on knowing the condition of health, motion and functional ability. It is based on physiotherapy science, but knowledge of many other sciencies are also used. Client's health, motion, functional ability and functional restrictions are assessed. Physiotherapy means are education, guiding, therapeutic exercises, manual and physical therapy and assistive device services. Client is activated to take the responsibility of his own health, functional ability and promoting of them. Physiotherapists work in various sectors of rehabilitation services or in private sector or as entrepreneurs.
In physiotherapy education face to face studies, webinars, on-line studies, self-directed study groups, independent studies and practical training are combined to each other enabling the generating practical competencies which are based on theoretical knowledge. Scientific aspect is impressed as a part of analyzing and developing own work. Student participates in planning of his own studies and also in planning and developing of the curriculum. Student's learning is supported through the education according to his personal study plan.

Study programme in executed as a multiform programme. Contact lessons at campus and webinars are mainly on daytime from Monday to Friday. According to phase of the studies there are contact weeks every 2-3 weeks. Practical training periods can be both in Oulu and elsewhere in Finland. It is possible to study a part of studies in international student exchange.
The programme is continuously evaluated and developed by students, working life and national and international actors interested in physiotherapy education.
After the studies the physiotherapist is able to serve as a physiotherapist in multiple areas applying evidence based physiotherapy methods to improve his/her clients functional capacity, occupational justice and independence.
