1P00CZ82 Basics of Competence-Based Pedagogy (17 cr)
Prerequisites -
Objectives 1. You reflect your level of competence and developmental needs in relation to the competence goals of the teacher education.
2. You create your personal study plan (PSP)
3. You are familiar with the documents that regulate planning teaching and guiding.
4. You understand the various practises and approaches of guiding in vocational and academic education.
5. You understand the relevance of the learning process in the planning of pedagogically founded teaching and guidance.
6. You understand the meaning and goals of assessment in the learning process.
7. You understand the amendments, guidelines and practises that regulate and govern assessment in vocational and higher education.
Content According to the competence-based approach, the contents of a study unit will be build based on the competence goals.
Accomplishment methods: Active participation in the planning, implementation and assessment of the sessions during the term.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.

- As a part of teacher’s work, you explore documents correlating to planning education and guidance in your own substance field.
- You explore the practises and methods of guidance in professional or university education and consider their fulfilment in your own subject field.
- You consider the methods and practises of guidance in your own substance field.
- You reflect on your own view of learning using various learning theories.
- You consider how the learning process manifests in the learning and teaching of your own substance field.
- In your analysis, you use your experience, scientific literature and other reliable sources.
- You consider the role and goals of assessment and explore the meaning of assessment in learning.
- You examine the amendments, guidelines and practises in teacher’s work and in your own substance field.
- You examine the practises and execution of personalizing the studies in vocational and higher education.

Further Information Please notice that the modules of this course cannot be selected separately. In this course you need to take part in small group work (3-5 students) to prepare material for a weekly 4-hour online sessions where you will be acting as a teacher/instructor. Participation in the planning and sessions is mandatory. The course starts with an introductory online session on 26th of May, 2021 at noon Finnish time (CEST +2). In June you will have a short personal online tutoring session. The regular sessions start at the 25th of August. Please notice that all the sessions are online.
