Exchange Studies

Kindly note that it is possible to pursue studies only from one of the offered programmes due to timetable constraints. Exceptionally, you can mix programmes by selecting courses from two different teaching periods. Please select the programme and choose courses according to your home university's and Oamk's workload requirement, which is usually 30 ECTS cr per semester. You are also required to stay for the whole mobility period, as long as learning activities last. Below please find the programmes for 2024-2025. Feel free to see also the programmes offered in 2023-2024. Please note that, unfortunately, our programmes in Professional Teacher Education, Software Development, Automation Engineering and Electrical Engineering won't be offered anymore as of 2024-2025.

  • Health & Social Care

    Our departments in health and social care are offering various exchange study programmes in English in 2024-25. Each programme includes a choice of timetabled regular on-site and online courses consisting of independent studies and, if available, a small-scale practical training course with limited seats and scope. All courses offered are instructed in English.  Our programmes in physiotherapy, occupational therapy and social services are offered on our Linnanmaa campus, all other programmes on Kontinkangas campus. N.B.! Only courses from one study programme and that have been matched with timetables can be taken. 

    Please note that practical training cannot be guaranteed in 2024-25 due to organisational change in the health and social care sectorThe seats and scope of practical training in all fields are limited due to changes in third parties such as hospitals.  Also, certain vaccines and tests are usually required or recommended for practical trainingYou are welcome to apply, but please plan your exchange including also possible substituting courses from our programmes listed below. You can also study Finnish Language 1: Survive! (3 ECTS cr) along with any programme - this course is mandatory, if you intend to pursue practical training.     Exchange durations in health and social care

    We prefer and recommend full-term exchanges with a workload/scope of approx. 30 ECTS cr per term in order to get the best possible mobility learning experience.

    Autumn 2024

    • Full-term exchange (P1&2) = 22.8. - 27.10. & 28.10. - 20.12., autumn vacation in week 43In autumn it is possible to pursue full-term exchanges only, see the options below!


    Spring 2025

    • Full-term exchange (P3&4) = 3.1. - 9.3 & 10.3. - 23.5., winter vacation in week 10.

    Students from nursing, biomedical laboratory science, radiography and radiation therapy, dental health care and occupational therapy may also come for a short-term exchange during the following fixed mobility periods either in the first part or in the second part of the spring term:

    • Short-term exchange (P4) = 21.2. - 23.5., independent studies in week 10

    Students from optometry, physiotherapy and social services can only pursue the full-term exchange in spring!

    Practical training courses and full traineeships in health and social care in 2024-2025

    Please note that practical training cannot be guaranteed in 2024-25 due to organisational change in the health and social care sectorThe seats and scope of practical trainingare limited in all fields due to changes in third parties such as hospitals.  Also, certain vaccines and tests are usually required or recommended for practical training.

    In general, our departments in health and social care offer practical training courses for a limited number of applicants and workload/scope (e.g. 2 weeks = 3 ECTS cr) within the field-specific programmes and normally during regular terms or special mobility periods only. 

    In this way, you may pursue also other courses supporting your practical training. For example, we offer Finnish Language 1: Survive! (3 ECTS cr)  and a number of timetabled online and regular courses during our academic terms.

    If you want to pursue and apply for a full traineeship in health and social care, please check our information in the "Traineeship in Health and Social Care" section.

    Practical training courses and full traineeships in health and social care must be applied to via MoveON according to our deadlines, in autumn by 30 April, and for spring by 15 October. Late applications won't be accepted!

    Admitted trainees in health and social care (apart from optometry) must meet our vaccination requirements and make sure to obtain required and recommended vaccinations and possible tests before the commencement of practical training or a traineeship.  See in detail the aforementioned website (Vaccinations) and our checklist

    All trainees must meet our insurance requirements, also these of third parties, if applicable. In addition, exchange students and trainees pursuing activities involving patients, customers, children or vulnerable adults must meet also safety requirements according to Finnish legislation.

    Scope and workload examples

    For traineeships and practical training, 1 week is counted at Oamk consisting of 40 work hours, i.e. 40/27 = approx. 1,5 ECTS cr/week. The work hours consist of the working time a student spends in a traineeship or practical training setting at/via Oamk, including also short breaks, meetings as well as preparation and reflection assignments, plans, reports and evaluation tasks etc. A traineeship or practical training is always supervised and/or mentored by Oamk’s staff, and the work hours and methods can be agreed in more detail in the traineeship agreement):

    Oulu is well known for its ICT -  technology and innovations. This can also be seen in the field of technology in our education.  As an ICT engineer you are able to design and realize various software solutions and applications. Software development skills and business knowledge are developed in real-world projects. All real-world projects and practical training enable you to network with work life already during your studies. All courses listed below are instructed in English. 

    In autumn (1st semester), ICT students may pursue interdisciplinary Game LAB, if the programme is suitable and there are sufficient seats.

  • Media and Performing Arts

    Our department of media and performing arts offers exchange studies in English in the field of media, dance and music. 

    N.B.! Only courses from one exchange study programme can be taken due to timetabling constraints. Visual Design Factory and Journalistic LAB are offered in spring (2nd semester) and can only be pursued on the whole (30 ECTS cr) for pedagogical reasons.  In autumn (1st semester), media students may pursue interdisciplinary Game LAB, if the programme is suitable.     Dance and music students are also encouraged to benefit from a full semester workload in their respective programmes. 

    Our dance programme is directed at students in the fields of ballet, show dance, ballroom dance and folk dance. The programme is educational, so dance pedagogy has a prominent role.

    Our music programme is directed at classical or pop/jazz music pedagogue students. The possibility to acquire education regarding instruments or voice depends on resourcing in our department.

    Applications are only accepted during the regular application period, and intake may be limited depending on the programme.  Attach or link a portfolio and/or recordings to your application.
