  • Interdisciplinary Studies

Our university offers opportunities for interdisciplinary projects in the frame of an exchange for either studies or traineeships. Please check what we offer. Information for each upcoming academic year will be published in the end of February.

    Game LAB (Autumn 2021)

Game LAB is an English-medium non-degree programme offered by Oamk in autumn 2021 and it is based on former Oamk LABs (*).

The programme is suitable for 3/4-year Bachelor's and Master's level students of graphic design, ICT/programming, business/marketing, producing, music.

Game LAB has to be pursued as a whole (30 ECTS cr) due to pedagogical considerations. In autumn 2021, the group ID for the programme and courses will be as follows:

    Autumn 2021 (group ID): EXY21SGLD

YY00BR00-3026 Concept Creation (Game LAB), 15 ECTS cr
YY00BR01-3024 Demo Creation (Game LAB), 15 ECTS cr

In Game LAB, you will deepen your knowledge and skills in game development. At first you will generate and pitch project ideas among students. You will then work on a project in interdisciplinary student teams following a business-driven approach.

Throughout Game LAB, your student team will be guided and coached by academic/professional staff of Oamk and relevant industry/company representatives. You can pursue Game LAB as a study exchange.

The focus of the Game LAB projects is nowadays on rapid product development (idea to product in less than 4 months):

    • Projects have a very narrow scope
    • Target platform is mobile / 2D / 3D
    • We have 2-3 test rounds - to validate your product
    • Projects are ended by means of retrospectively looking into the learning outcome and failures of the demo products and team work.

In a nutshell, we are providing a very quick and harsh dip into the game industry.

If need be, you may obtain more detailed course descriptions by clicking on the course links above, or from the course search website of Oamk by entering the course code and/or name, We advise to search for courses by its basic code (e.g. Y0002EE) or by name (e.g. Finnish Survival Course). You can also pursue the Finnish Survival Course in addition to the Game LAB courses mentioned above.

In case of questions, please refer to .

(*) Oamk LABs was a unique and internationally renown pedagogical model developed and implemented at Oamk 2012-2019. DevLAB and EduLAB have ended or rebranded in autumn 2019. Game LAB focuses nowadays on rapid product development, as outlined above.

Have a look at videos (short / long version) giving insight into the original Oamk LAB approach through the eyes and words of students. Here is also an article about the Oamk LAB pedagogical model.

Please note that Oamk's admission and learning agreement including Demola is always conditional, as Demola makes admission decisions for global online projects. You can pursue a Demola project currently only in combination with a regular physical exchange and another programme offered at Oamk.

If you are applying to Demola, please notify us also at . In case of questions about the content and delivery of Demola, please contact Demola. If you will be accepted by Demola, please inform us at and also indicate your project and the duration (2 months) including the start and end date.
