7W00DX80 Advanced Studies of Occupational Therapy, practice (15 cr)

Objectives The student has developed knowledge and skills necessary to work as an occupational therapist. The student demonstrates ability to work, not only under supervision but also independently, for an organisation providing occupational therapy services. The student is able to develop occupational therapy practices and willing to deepen and widen his/her occupational therapy knowledge base and professional skills. The student demonstrates ability to follow the ethical guidelines concerning occupational therapy and social and health care. The student is able to evaluate his/her action through reflection.
Content The role of an occupational therapist in various rehabilitation and service systems (public/private/third sector). Exploratory approach to work. Professional behaviour and knowledge sharing. Practising ethically. Reflective working method.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.

Evaluation Criteria

The student works self-directly in the role of an occupational therapist, following occupational therapy and general ethical guidelines in the work environment agreed upon in the internship or employment relationship.
The student chooses and justifies the theoretical basis of occupational therapy and the occupational therapy methods he uses for the occupational therapy of individual and group clients using the guidance in the form of work supervision.
The student uses activity-oriented and evidence-based occupational therapy methods widely and evaluates their appropriateness.
The student understands occupational therapy as part of social services and recognizes the impact of resources on the client's services.
In cooperation with members of the work community, the student identifies an object that requires development, prepares a plan comparing different method alternatives, and evaluates and documents it to the work community.
