Description


7W00DB19 Client-centred Occupational Therapy for Elderly (5 cr)
Prerequisites First year studies.
Objectives The student is able to describe his/her values and attitudes towards aging and stage of life of elderly. She/he is able to analyze the meaning of occupation and preventive occupational therapy as enabling factors for health and wellbeing for elderly. The student is able to define the essential concepts of gerontology and is able to describe the age-related changes in one's body. She / he is able to analyze the effects of these changes to occupational performance. The student is able to apply the principles of client-centered services when working with elderly in his/her own context. The student is able to describe the effect of diseases, disability and age-related changes to the occupational performance and environment of an elderly client. The student is able to apply specific theories, models and frames of references for occupational therapy for the elderly when planning and implementing therapeutic interventions in situations demonstrated in practice.
Content Aging as a stage of life. The position of the elderly in the value base of occupational therapy and in the rehabilitation system. Student values ??and attitudes related to aging. Key basic concepts and research directions of gerontology. Functional ability of an elderly client in occupational therapy based on client participation. National programs, recommendations and the importance of digitalization in examining the agency of the elderly. Theoretical models of occupational therapy in the elderly client's occupational therapy process.

Execution methods Student develops skills by acquiring information about the contents of the themes, working independently and in small groups, and practicing in workshops/simulation exercises.

The student identifies a few problems of the elderly client's ability to function and describes their effect on participation in activities. The student names and remembers something about the theories of occupational therapy and the gerontological principles of aging and can tell about it in their own words.

The student knows and can describes the central problems of the elderly client's ability to function as well as the gerontological starting points of aging and understands their consequences for human participation. The student applies the theories of the study course and the analysis of activities appropriately to the occupational therapy of example clients and justifies his choice.

excellent (5)
The student understands and knows how to describe the central problems of the elderly client's ability to function as well as the gerontological starting points of aging and understands their consequences for human participation. The student can smoothly apply the theories of the course to clients' occupational therapy and justifies their choice by applying the analysis of the activity and the environment.
