Prerequisites | PART 1. ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY. 1 ECTS Final studies. The completion of this course requires knowledge of the field of dental health and completion of clinical practice in one's own field. PART 2. DEEPENING OF PERIODONTOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE 2 ECTS Final studies. The completion of this course requires knowledge of the field of dental health and completion of clinical practice in one's own field. Base of parodontology and advanced of parodontology theory must be completed before the course PART 3. THE DIAGNOSTICS IN ORTHODONTICS 1 ECTS Clinical practice of orthodontic, all Clinical practice and orthodontic theory must be completed before the course. PART 4. ORAL GERIATRICS 1 ETCS Final studies, the completion of which requires the completion of previous studies. |
Objectives | PART 1. ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY 1 ECTS The student will be able to - Learn which health aspects and medications should be noted before surgical procedures. Student knows principles of most common surgical treatments and role of the dental hygienist in these procedures. - Learn key points of the etiology of cleft lip and/or palate, treatment protocol. - Learn principles of organ transplantation and its effect to oral health. PART 2. DEEPENING OF PERIODONTOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE 2 ECTS The student will be able to -Developing basic skills in periodontal patient care. Diagnostics, criteria for classifying diseases and cases, assessment of risk factors, multidisciplinary division of labour. -Evaluation of periodontal trauma to the bite, impact on periodontal health and standard treatment. -Assessment and prevention of periodontal health in children and adolescents, physiological changes associated with menopause and puberty. -Limitations of treatment during the hygiene phase. Key periodontal surgical procedures, periodontal wound healing and periodontal surgery aftercare. -The periodontological aspect of implant treatment. -The infectious nature of gingivitis and periodontitis, the links between periodontal health and general health and how to address them in periodontal care. -Drug-related periodontal changes. PART 3. THE DIAGNOSTICS IN ORTHODONTICS 1 ECTS credits. The student will be able to - Eevaluate and diagnose the most common malocclusion on population level and the importance of malocclusions. - Can make the difference between mild and severe malocclusions. - Competent to use the most common diagnostic tools and documentation methods to screen malocclusions. - Can evaluate the functional factors of occlusion, related to malocclusion. - Understands the referring system and comprehensive care, related to the treatment of malocclusions. PART 4. ORAL GERIATRICS 1 ETCS The student will be able to - Consider the impact of an older person's illness and disability on oral health/care - Identify the most common oral diseases in older people - Describe common changes in the mouth with ageing - Describe the specificities of treatment and prevention of oral diseases in older people - Describe the principles of oral palliative care |
Content | PART 1. ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY. 1 ECTS Topics of the lectures: preoperative evaluation of patient health, wound healing, suturing and removal of sutures, local anesthesia, dental traumas, implantology, root resection, cyst lesion of jaws and treatment, ortognathical surgery, treatment of cleft lip and/or palate patients, oral health of patients with organ transplant. PART 2. DEEPENING OF PERIODONTOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE 2 ECTS -Developing basic skills in periodontal patient care. Extrinsic factor related to the emergency of orthodontic PART 4. ORAL GERIATRICS 1 ETCS Diseases and medications of the elderly and functional capacity from a oral perspective. Ageing changes in the mouth. Oral problems of the elderly and their treatment. Oral palliative care. |

ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY 1 ECTS Passed: The student is able to assess and take into account the general condition of the patient and any medical conditions and medications that may be relevant when planning interventions. The student will have an outline of the most common oral surgical procedures and their objectives and the role of the oral hygienist in the patient's care. Fail: The student does not recognise/understand the impact of the patient's general health and medication on oral health and the assessment of the suitability of the procedure. The student does not internalise the most common oral surgical procedures in their main phases, understand the objectives of the procedures or place the oral hygienist within the care team and work tasks. PART 2. DEEPENING OF PERIODONTOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE 2 ECTS The course unit utilizes verbal grading scale pass/fail. Assessment of student competences is based on the learning outcomes of the course. PART 3. THE DIAGNOSTICS IN ORTHODONTICS 1 ECTS In clinical practice OukaOpa app is used for self-assessment in Orthodontics based on national competences, clinical teachers will comment. The student will be able to assess and diagnose the most common malpositions at the population level and the significance of malpositions. distinguish between mild and severe malpositions. use the most common diagnostic tools and documentation methods to screen for malocclusions. evaluate the functional factors of occlusion associated with malocclusion. Understand the referral system and the overall management of malocclusions. PART 4. ORAL GERIATRICS 1 ETCS The student can take into account the general health and functional capacity of the elderly in dental care, can identify the most common oral diseases in the elderly and can describe their treatment/prevention, can describe the most common oral ageing changes and the principles of oral palliative care. |
