| Objectives | Student is able to explain principles of dental x-ray examination and radiation protection. The student is able to explain patient centered care and imaging in panogramic (PTG) and intraoral x-ray examinations. Student demonstrates ability to explain factors affecting to dose and image quality and take care of radiation protection and dose optimization of patients and staff and understands the meaning and use of reference levels. Student is able to perform, analyse and report quality assurance tests of panoramic and intraoral equipment. Student is able to compaire radiation doses to patient from dental x-ray examinations and evaluate and develop radiation protection. The student is able to communicate about the quality and amount of the radiation in daily practice and interpret risks of radiation. |
| Content | Part I (2 ECTS) Produce of x-rays and images. Equipments and imaging receptors in dental imaging. Safe use of radiation and radiation protection. Patient care in dental x-ray examinations and quality criteria for intraoral and PTG images. Quality assurance in intraoral examination. Part II (2 ECTS) Biological effects of ionizing radiation. National and international legislation concerning dental examinations. Dose optimization of patients and staff. Dose assessment. Quality assurance in PTG. |
