7T00DE66 The Multidimensionality of the Welfare State (5 cr)
Prerequisites No prerequisites.
Objectives The student understands the multidimensionality of welfare. The students understands the importance of individual, community and societal factors for well-being. The student explains the various social models and the well-being goals they incorporate. The student knows the objectives of social policies promoting welfare and the formal and informal institutions that implement them. The Student understands the connection of globalization with social factors and the realization of a good life.
Content Well-being as a concept. Conditions and shortages of human, family and community well-being as the goal of social policy and different welfare state models. The development and foundation of values of the Finnish welfare state and society. Social, economic and cultural policy pursuing a welfare goal. A social policy system as well as self-sustaining and responsible action as a builder of well-being. Service system as part of well-being. The link between globalization and human well-being and national and regional social policy.

The student explains the multidimensionality of well-being and the importance of individual, community and societal factors, illustrating them with examples. The student identifies social policy objectives that promote well-being and the link between the development of globalisation and social determinants.

excellent (5)
The student describes and explains the multidimensionality of well-being using research data and reflects on the importance of individual, community and societal factors for well-being. The student describes different models of society and explains the welfare goals within them. Students will evaluate a wide range of social policy objectives that promote well-being and analyse the formal and informal institutions that implement them. The student will describe and explain the link between the development of globalisation and social factors and the realisation of the good human life.
