Description


OS00DY28 Basic training of Pediatric Nursing (6 cr)
Prerequisites The practical training in evidence-based nursing (and the theoretical studies required for the training) has been successfully completed.

Part 1 of Family Nursing (OS00DX17): Fundamentals of Nursing for Children and Adolescents 3 credits or equivalent completed or in progress.

Objectives The student
- can adapt the evidence based knowledge when working with children, adolescents and their families
- can plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based pediatric nursing
- acts responsibly when caring for children and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team
- implements safe medication management for children and adolescents under supervision
- can report in writing and orally
Content The process of caring for children and adolescents in different settings.
Medical treatment for children and adolescents.
Meeting and guiding children, adolescents and families.
Multidisciplinary working.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods Before the placement, I set out the learning objectives for the placement and write a CV/portfolio of myself for my internship.
I actively seek guidance to support my learning.
I do the learning tasks for the internship.
I will use a medication passport.
At the end of the placement, I will write a self-assessment.
Execution methods The placement will usually take place in a paediatric ward or outpatient clinic in a specialised hospital. Alternatively, in a healthcare unit where children, adolescents and their families with various illnesses are treated.

Further Information The student must show the instructor responsible for the course the criminal record before starting the internship.

After completing the basic internship, the student will take the YleSH Clinical Competence Examination in Child and Adolescent Nursing as a paired examination.

Recognition of previously acquired skills:
It is possible for the student to have part of the traineeship accredited on the basis of his/her own skills for example if worked as a childminder in kindergarden.
The student must be in contact with the traineeship supervisor before starting the traineeship
