The aim of the Degree Programme in Nursing is to educate experts to plan, carry out and develop professional nursing. Education is based on nursing science and other health sciences supplemented with medicine and other natural, social and behavioral sciences. The learning process advances from basic nursing skills to nursing in different contexts, settings and expertise areas. At the end of the studies students can choice studies in medical and surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, pediatric nursing, gerontological nursing, perioperative nursing or acute and intensive care, outpatient and home care or eHealth and digital nursing.

Nursing is a demanding profession that requires physical, mental and emotional strength. Registered nurses practices within an evidence-based framework to support people during different phases of life to face sickness, disability and death in cooperation with their next of kin and other professionals. Nurses are able to advice and support people to manage their health. They are committed to perform nursing interventions in accordance with recognized standards of professional nursing practice and ethical principles. Every mistake can have far-reaching consequences and that is why nurses must be careful and pay special attention to patient safety. Nurses work in a variety of situations with different people. They need to be ready to respond quickly to emergencies and all the situations that arise. Nurses must have excellent social and interaction skills as well as leadership skills, critical thinking and decision-making skills. Health care is a dynamic field. In order to stay current, a successful nurse is dedicated to continuing education. Capabilities in conducting research and development work is necessary.

Nursing education gives the necessary knowledge and skills to provide essential care to anyone who needs it as well as additional skills to provide more complex care. Education helps students to integrate nursing and health care knowledge, skills and attitudes in their work to provide safe and effective nursing care. Teaching and learning methods are varied. Modern technology is used in teaching as well as lectures and practical skills training, study groups, full scale simulations and clinical training in practice. Nurses are educated and trained to work in open clinics, wards, intensive care units and operation rooms of hospitals and health care centers. The Degree Programme in Nursing is qualifying students as registered nurses with EU competence.
