OS00DX98 Acute Outpatient Care (5 cr)
Prerequisites The course can be chosen when the compulsory vocational studies are mainly completed with a pass. Students must have completed at least 120 credits of nursing studies.
Objectives -The student masters essential diagnostic examinations and procedures as a part of the patient's holistic care in acute outpatient environments
-The student is able to form conclusions of somatic outpatients´ state and changes of health and adherence to self-care
-Is able to plan and implement patient care in acute outpatient environments
-Is able to apply safe intravenous medication and fluid therapies, pain care, interpret, support vital functions and manages ekg interpretation in acute patient
-Is able to mind diffirent patients in acute care and detects social emergency
-Is able to apply triage in order to enhance the quality and safety of patient care
-Is able to apply evidence based nursing
-Is able to evaluate personal competencies and development in different situations of interaction
-Is able to solve professional problems and confections in multi professional teams
Content -Characteristics of nursing work in acute emergency and outpatient care
-Utilisation-based nursing: IV drug and fluid therapy, resuscitation, assessment, support and management of the vital signs of acutely ill patients
-mental health, substance abuse and paediatric patients in the emergency setting - specific features
-Social emergencies
-Classification of the urgency of care needs triage
-ECG interpretation in the critically ill patient
-Home-based acute home care services and health technology
-Working in pairs and teams, multidisciplinary skills
-Critical thinking and problem solving
-Quality of care, professional identity and ethical competence

-I implement safely administer intravenous drugs, fluids and pain management, and examine, interpret and support the vital signs of acutely ill patients
-I can interpret the outline of an acutely ill patient's ECG
-I Know and be able to use 5-step triage as a tool to improve quality of care and patient safety
-I Understand the characteristics of different patient groups in the ED environment and know the different social emergencies
-I understand the importance of researched information as part of decision making
