OS00DX93 Pediatric Nursing II (5 cr)
Prerequisites The student must have completed the course Pediatric Nursing I or equivalent competence.
Objectives The student masters the essential knowledge and skills of nursing in acute and long-term care of children and adolescents.

The student will be able to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care of acutely and long-term sick children and adolescents in an ethical and patient-safe manner, applying reliable evidence-based knowledge.

The student is able to apply and deepen his/her knowledge of guidance in the care of children, young people and families.

The student will be able to develop their professional competence in the implementation of clinical interventions for children and adolescents.

The student will be able to act in teaching situations as a responsible nurse in the care team and as a coordinator of the overall care of the patient.

The student will analyse his/her own competence and development and be able to contribute to the development of nursing care for children and young people.
Content -Acute care for children
-Care of children with long-term diseases
-Care of neurologically ill children
-Care in children's homes and care rings
-Guidance and participation of children and adolescents
-Clinical interventions in pediatric nursing
-Child abuse and domestic violence
-Emergency situations of children and adolescents
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods Most of the active theoretical teaching takes place online. Training and simulation lessons are held at the Kontinkankas campus in Oulu. Attendance for the training and simulation classes is 100%. Other compulsory requirements are specified in the course info on Moodle. Group and pair assignments are assessed on a scale of T1-K5.
Execution methods I develop my skills by acquiring theoretical knowledge related to child, youth and family care, attending activating lectures and completing course assignments independently and in small groups.
I actively participate in the practice classes.
In simulation, I will act responsibly as a member of the nursing team, taking into account patient safety.
I will demonstrate my theoretical knowledge in group or pair work to be assessed.
