Description

OS00DX68	Optional Medical Specialty Courses (10 cr)
Prerequisites	Starting optional advanced studies requires the student to have completed at least 120 ECTS credits. The prerequisites also apply to freely elective study courses.
Objectives	The student applies elaborative medical knowledge in nursing work. The student evaluates his/her medical competence and develops it.
Content	The student selects a minimum of 2 ECTS credits of optional medical specialty courses related to own carrier plan: - Anesthesiology 1 CR - Intensive Care Medicine 1 CR - Surgery 1 CR - Pediatrics 1 CR - Child Psychiatry 1 CR - Internal Medicine 1 CR - Psychiatry 1 CR - Substance Abuse Medicine 1 CR - Geriatrics 1 CR - Oncology 1 CR
Recommended optional programme components	If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods	The student develops his/her knowledge of diseases and their medical treatment with help of lectures and learning tasks and other learning material. The student demonstrates his/her skills in the theory exam.

Materials	The learning materials of the course and more detailed information about the course can be found in the Moodle learning environment. The student will receive a password for the learning environment at the latest during the course info from the teacher in charge of the course.

Evaluation Criteria	satisfactory (1-2) The student explains some diseases of in-depth knowledge, the factors influencing their occurrence, identifies symptoms and based on them concludes some essential studies, interpret some test findings and describe medical treatment. The student evaluates his/her own medical knowledge in the exam. good (3-4) The student explains key diseases of in-depth course content and factors influencing their occurrence, as well as identifies symptoms and makes conclutions of relevant tests, interprets test findings and justifies suitable medical treatment. The student evaluates his/her own medical knowledge in the exam. excellent (5) The student comprehensively explains the diseases of in-depth course content and factors influencing their occurrence, as well as identifies symptoms and makes conclutions of relevant tests, interprets test findings and justifies suitable medical treatment for various patients in different types of situations. The student evaluates his/her own medical knowledge in the exam.

Further Information	At least 2 ECTS credits are selected from the course according to your own study plan. The studies must support the selected advanced studies in nursing. In addition to this, medical studies can be completed for freely elective studies. It is worthwhile to familiarize yourself in advance with what kind of training and competence requirements employers have defined for nurses in different work communities. Signing up for selected parts of the implementation of advanced medical studies is announced at the beginning of the course. The signing up is done on the Moodle platform of the course.
