OS00DX03 Nursing of Chronic Diseases (8 cr)
Prerequisites The student has completed the courses (or has equivalent competence):
Basics of Medication Administration,
Basics of Nursing or Basics of Prehospital Emergency Care
Anatomy and Physiology: Part 1: Basic Structures and Functions
Fundamentals of professionalism and health promotion in nursing and midwifery
Objectives The Student
- understands the nursing and medication of a person with chronic diseases according to the nursing process, based on evidence.
- understands the symptomatic care of a terminally ill person and supporting them and their loved ones.
- understands the risk factors that cause public health problems.
- understands the importance and basics of patient guidance as part of guidance and nursing of chronic diseases.
- understands epidemiology, etiology, symptoms and test findings, clinical pharmacology and medical treatment of chronic diseases.

- knows the main symptoms/clinical signs of patients with various common diseases and the functions of nursing.
- uses a variety of research and treatment technologies taking patient safety into account and can evaluate the effectiveness of treatment in a guided way.
- knows symptomatic nursing activities for terminally ill patients and activities to support the patient and family members in a guided way.
- knows the importance and basics of patient counselling and customer communication as part of the management of public health diseases.
- carries out a counselling situation.
- identifies some factors regarding etiology and prevalence, symptoms, test findings, and medical treatment of common chronic diseases.
- remembers some basic information about the pharmacology of drugs used to treat common chronic diseases.

Assessment Frameworks Not applicable
Further Information - If the student has completed equivalent studies at another university of applied sciences, the course can be approved on the basis of a HOT application and supporting documents.
- If the student has a degree in nursing, part of the classroom exercises can be approved as indicated in the course info. The approval number will be agreed with the teacher in charge of the course at least one week after the info.
- A calculator may not be used for the medical calculus examinations.
