Description


OS00DW88 Perioperative Nursing, Practical Training (18 cr)
Prerequisites You have completed at least 140 credits of nursing studies: the first and second semester must be completed in full with a pass in the medical bills.
You can complete a traineeship in perioperative nursing after you have completed the theory courses in perioperative nursing I and II.
You must present a criminal record report to your tutor before starting your traineeship (traineeships with minors). The criminal record must not be older than 6 months.
Objectives The student can plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for perioperative patients as a member of a nursing team, applying national and international evidence.
The student applies knowledge, skills and decision-making in perioperative nursing in a patient-centred way.
The student adheres to patient safety, ethical guidelines and principles of nursing and act as a responsible and collegial member of the nursing team at different stages of the nursing process.
The student applies different guidance methods in a patient-centred way
The student communicates with patients and the care team in a professional and context-sensitive manner.
The student records and reports on patient care in accordance with the practice of my placement.
The student produces written work related to the care of perioperative patients, applying my perioperative skills.
The student is responsible for the assessment and development of my own skills.
Content Surgical nursing care at different stages of the perioperative patient care process.
Anaesthetic care at different stages of the perioperative patient care process.
Aseptic, ergonomic and patient-safe perioperative care.
Multidisciplinary teamwork, communication, information and continuity of care.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods Perioperative Nursing Practicum 18 cr / 12 weeks
* Traineeship in the operating theatre: four weeks on the anaesthetic side, four weeks on the surgical side, four weeks on the anaesthetic or surgical side according to your own interest.
* Written assignment
* Reflection on own skills, self-assessment
Execution methods The student developes skills in perioperative nursing during my traineeship.
The student applies nursing skills in a role as a nurse in an operating theatre.
The student demonstrates the skills in a written assignment related to the internship.
Materials The course materials and more detailed information about the course can be found in the Moodle learning environment. You will receive a password for the learning environment from the course tutor at the course info at the latest.

Further Information HOT approval number: a request for approval is made to Peppi if the student has completed equivalent studies at another higher education institution.
The traineeship may be completed by carrying out nursing tasks in the operating theatre on the anaesthetic and surgical side.
The traineeship in perioperative nursing is carried out at the end of the third and/or the beginning of the fourth academic year.
