OS00DW87	Perioperative Nursing II (5 cr)
Prerequisites	The student has completed at least 120 credits of primary or nursing studies: the first and second semesters of specialised studies have been successfully completed with the medical calculations. Perioperative Nursing I has been completed.
Objectives	The student has the key knowledge and skills needed to be a perioperative nurse in different types of surgery and be able to make decisions related to the care of perioperative patients. The student applies her/his skills in perioperative nursing of special patient groups. The student identifies and deals with specific perioperative nursing situations in an ethical and safe manner, applying evidence-based knowledge. The student is proficient in nursing resuscitation in the operating theatre environment. The student assess her/his competence and develop her/his own performance in a multidisciplinary team based on feedback.
Content	Anaesthesia for different types of surgery Anaesthesia in special patient groups Special anaesthetic situations Types of surgery in specialties Special situations in surgery Resuscitation in the operating theatre environment Multidisciplinary teamwork in special situations Implementation components of the course: 1. basics of demanding perioperative nursing (2 credits) incl. learning tasks, group work, theoretical teaching and individual/group examination. 2. application of skills in demanding perioperative nursing (3 credits) including practical lessons and simulations.
Recommended optional programme components	If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods	Theoretical teaching is delivered online. Training and simulation classes at the Kontinkankas campus in Oulu. The attendance rate for practice and simulation classes is 100%. Other compulsory requirements are specified in the course info on Moodle. The course's demonstration of competence (simulation) is assessed by pass/fail and individual/group examination 0-5.
Execution methods	The student develops hesr/his skills by acquiring theoretical knowledge related to perioperative nursing, by doing tasks independently and in small groups. The student actively participates in training classes and seminars. The student demonstrates hes/his competence in simulation by acting responsibly as a member of a care team, taking into account patient safety. The student demonstrates her/his theoretical knowledge in an exam.
Materials	The learning materials and more detailed information on the implementation of the course can be found in the Moodle learning environment. Students will be able to log in to the learning environment when the teacher responsible for the implementation provides a password for logging in, at the latest during the course info.

I am able to use evidence-based practice and decision-making in perioperative nursing. I Work as a member of the perioperative care team in resuscitation and master resuscitation protocol. I am able to evaluate my skills and develop my performance based on feedback. excellent (5) I apply my own perioperative nursing skills in the planning and implementation of anaesthesia and surgical nursing for different types of surgery. I recognise specific patient groups and can act in a reasoned manner, applying appropriate care methods. I Work ethically and safely in specific perioperative care situations and select appropriate care methods. I Apply evidence-based perioperative nursing practice and decision-making I act as a member of the surgical team and as a leader in resuscitation in the operating theatre and I manage the protocol for resuscitation I am able to analyse my competences and present reasoned solutions to develop my competences.
