Description

OS00DW86	Perioperative Nursing I (5 cr)
Prerequisites	The student has completed at least 120 credits of primary or nursing studies: the first and second semester subjects have been successfully completed with the medical calculations.
Objectives	The student is able to act in accordance with the values and principles of perioperative nursing at different stages of the perioperative care process. The student is able to plan, implement and evaluate anaesthetic nursing care. The student is able to plan, implement and evaluate perioperative nursing care. The student is able to work in a collegial manner in learning situations, applying teamwork skills The student is able to use evidence-based information in decision making. The student is able to assess her/his competence and develop her/his actio in goal-oriented way.
Content	Safe perioperative care for patients of different ages Anaesthetic care at different stages of the perioperative care process Perioperative care at different stages of the perioperative care process Multidisciplinary teamwork in the care of the perioperative patient Implementation components of the course: 1. basics of perioperative nursing (2 ECTS) incl. learning tasks, theoretical teaching and individual or group examination. 2. application of skills in perioperative nursing (3 credits) including practical lessons and simulations.
Recommended optional programme components	If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods	Theoretical teaching is delivered online. Training and simulation classes at the Kontinkankas campus in Oulu. The attendance rate for practice and simulation classes is 100%. Other compulsory requirements are specified in the course info on Moodle. The medical bills included in the course will be assessed pass/fail and the individual or group examination fail, T1-K5.
Execution methods	The student will develop her/his skills by acquiring theoretical knowledge related to perioperative nursing, attending activating lectures and completing preliminary assignments independently and in small groups. The student will actively participate in practice classes. In simulation, The student will act responsibly as a member of the care team, taking into account patient safety. The student will demonstrate her/his theoretical knowledge in the exam.
Materials	The learning materials and more detailed information on the implementation of the course can be found in the Moodle learning environment. Students will be able to log in to the learning environment when the teacher responsible for the implementation provides a password for logging in, at the latest during the course info.
