Prerequisites | First and second semester studies completed. |
Objectives | The student - knows the impact for individuals´ wellbeing caused by mental illness and addiction. - can evaluate the need for care of people having mental health problems and/or addictions. - understands how mental health issues and/or addiction influence on peoples´ behaviour and is able to interact professionally. - knows how to prevent and manage challenging behaviour. - knows the principals of mental health act. |
Content | Evaluation of the need for care of people having mental health problems and/or addictions. Professional interaction with depressed, psychotic, suicidal patients` and people with crisis. Preventing and managing challenging behaviour. Mental health services, the mental health act and recommendations. |

I recognize the effects of mental health problems, addiction or acute crisis reaction on client/patient interaction. I understand and can explain the principles of prevention and safe management of challenging behaviour. I know and can describe the key principles of the legislation governing mental health and substance abuse nursing. good (3-4) I analyse the impact of mental health issues and substance abuse on the well-being of individuals and their loved ones. I identify and analyse peoples' needs for care and the mental health and substance abuse services they require. I apply knowledge about mental health problems, addictions and acute crisis reactions in professional interaction.
