OS00DV98 Mental Health and Addiction Nursing (4 cr)
Prerequisites First and second semester studies completed.
Objectives The student
- knows the impact for individuals´ wellbeing caused by mental illness and addiction.
- can evaluate the need for care of people having mental health problems and/or addictions.
- understands how mental health issues and/or addiction influence on peoples´ behaviour and is able to interact professionally.
- knows how to prevent and manage challenging behaviour.
- knows the principals of mental health act.
Content Evaluation of the need for care of people having mental health problems and/or addictions.
Professional interaction with depressed, psychotic, suicidal patients` and people with crisis.
Preventing and managing challenging behaviour.
Mental health services, the mental health act and recommendations.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods Online debate.
Written learning tasks.
Medical calculus test.
Simulations/exercises.
Execution methods I develop my skills by completing coursework assignments and participating in simulations/exercises.

I know and can describe the key principles of the legislation governing mental health and substance abuse nursing.
