| Objectives | Student is able to read site investigations and is able to choose foundation method. Student is able to calculate bearing capacity and settlemet of earth based foundation. He/She knows the different strenghtening methods of subsoils in house construction and infra construction and student also knows the principles of those methods. Student knows different kinds of pile foundations. Student knows what do stabilty and earth pressure mean. Student knows the main methods how to make supported excavation and can recognize those conditions when it is necessary to make supported excavation. Student knows the principles of drainage in excavations. Student knows quality control methods of compaction work. Student can design frost protection and drainage of small house. Student recognizes the environmental effects of construction work. |
| Content | The main parameters of design work, foundation methods: Foundations on rock or subsoil, pile foundations. Criterias to choose foundation method. Earth strenthening methods. Quality control of earth construction. Bearing capacity and settlement. Documentation of foundation method. Stabilty and earth pressure. Excavation/supported excavation. designing of frost protection. Drainage. Environmental risks of construction work: Vibration, sinking of ground water table, noise, dust, cutting of soil material, use of byproducts. |
