TF00BN91 Basics of Geotechnics (5 cr)
Prerequisites No prerequisites needed
Objectives The student is able to group different formations of soil layers , is able to name the soil types and knows the basic geotechnical properties of soils. S/He is able to calculate geostatic stresses and to consider the impacts of groundwater. The student is also able to calculate frost depth.
Content The formation of minerals, stones, rock and soil layers. Site investigations , basic laboratory tests and classification of soil types. Basic geotechnical properties of soils. Groundwater: formation, occurance, Darcy´s law. Geostatic stresses, frost, frost depth and frost heave.
