TF00BN90 Strength of Materials (5 cr)
Prerequisites Statics.
Objectives Upon completion of the course the student knows the basic concepts and phenomena of strength of materials. The student is able to determine dimensions of simple strut and beam structures based on the theory of elasticity. He is familiar with the stability conditions and have basic knowledge of solving a hyperstatic structure.
Content Mechanical properties of materials. The stress and strain state of a material point, and the relation between them. The dimensioning of tension, compression and torsion strut, as well as a beam in accordance with the strength of materials. The deflection curve of a simple beam. Buckling of a simple strut, as well as other phenomena relating to the stability of structures. Strength hypotheses.
