TF00BN78 Building Construction Basic Competence (15 cr)

Objectives House Construction
Can explain and decode circumstances which influences for construction, buildingphysical consepts and functions and can apply these to typical domestic house constructions and make work- and detail level drawings using sources of branch information. Recognise and can name different construction systems and parts of buildings. Can describe the flow of building project, parties and their tasks and can describe essential consepts of building directives. Knows the landscape planning system, basics of town planning and the main laws for this.

Building materials
The student knows the usually used building materials and materials groups and can explain their most important properties and way to use. In addition he can take into account materials health and environment influences.


Structural design
The student will have the basic knowledge required in structure design tasks. He can construct the load bearing structural system, determine the loads on buildings and calculate the forces on structural elements. The student is familiar with the code based control system on building branch.
Content House Construction
Circumstances and the meaning of building activity fot community and people. Sources of information for building branch. Land, soil, basements, domestic house body and envelope structures. Basics of physical and fireconsepts for buildings. Building project and prosess, parts and their tasks. Essential building directives. The content of main and work designs and show conventions. Permissions for building. Finnish land planning system, meaning, town planning,process and. Laws of implementation for landscape planning.

Building materials
Most important materials manufacturing, properties and use in practice and their health and environment impact.


Structural design
The design process and the tasks of structural designer. Building codes, legal validity of regulations and guidelines, qualification of designers. Structural systems and load bearing structural elements of buildings. Transfer of loads over structural elements to foundation. Loads and loading combinations. Preparation and presentation of design documents.
