Students in the Degree Programme in Construction Architecture gain a solid knowledge of the technical basics of house building, especially residential building in the northern areas. The education is practically oriented and opens doorways to the working life through practical training, projects and thesis work. Our lecturers have connections and also work in tight co-operation with representatives of the working life.
The emphasis of the programme lies in one-family house design, apartment block design, renovation/refurbishment, small-scale industrial/agricultural construction, building information management visualization.
During the studies you will use the latest equipment for visualization e.g. 3D-virtual laboratory Cave, which is unique in the field of education in Finland. In addition to the technical know-how and knowledge of the construction process, creative work is emphasized in the studies; you will have the chance to fulfill yourself and show your personal, unique style.
The key areas in the degree programme are:
- functionality, habitability and usability of buildings
- modeling (BIM) and visualization of buildings
- renovation
- maintenance of buildings
- life-cycle thinking
- material and energy efficiency
- project management and processes in construction design
Graduates of this degree programme may work in versatile positions as construction designers and experts in the fields of civil and municipal engineering. Construction Architecture (UAS) will be qualified to work as a construction designer of the demanding level (formerly known as A-class).
Studies common to all students include basics of entrepreneurship and economics, and subjects such as mathematics, information technology as well as languages and communication. The professional studies include extensive project studies in designing or other project work in collaboration with companies. At the end of studies a thesis work will be compiled primarily in collaboration with companies. Possibilities for studies abroad are good due to active co-operation with international partner universities.
