Description

OQ00CT15 Angiography Examinations and Interventions (4 cr)
Prerequisites Student has passed the study module of Client-Centred Clinical Skills in Radiography and Radiation Therapy.
Objectives The student can explain evidence-based facts that guides the planning, implementation and evaluation of angiography examinations and interventions. The student can explain the principles of angiography examinations and interventions and the radiographer’s role in the multi-professional team, prioritizing safety. The student understands the importance of preliminary preparations, aftercare, patient-centered guidance and care, monitoring of the patient's vital functions, medical treatment, and asepsis as part of high-quality and safe diagnostics. The student can explain the principles of radiation protection and optimization of radiation exposure in angiography examinations and interventions. The student can explain the factors affecting image quality in angiography examinations. The student can explain the safe use of the most common instruments in angiography. The student can tell about the most common angiography examinations and interventions.
The student can explain the operating principles of a fluoroscopy device based on radiation physics. The student understands the importance of quality assurance in angiography examinations and interventions. The student knows the reference doses for angiography examinations and interventions.
Content Part 1. (2 cr) Angiography examinations and interventions. Guiding and caring for the patient/client in angiography examinations and interventions. Optimization of radiation exposure in angiography examinations. Job description of an X-ray nurse in angiography examinations and interventions as part of a multi-professional team.
Part 2. (1 cr) Monitoring the vital functions of the anesthesia patient (breathing, blood circulation, pain, body temperature) and being able to explain how to respond to problems arising in the vital functions by means of nursing and medicine. Caring for an anesthetized patient and the importance of medication in angiography examinations and interventions. The radiographer’s role in angiography examinations and interventions as part of a multi-professional team. Adoption of safe work practices in angiography examinations and interventions.
Part 3. (1 cr) Physical basis of image formation and structure, operation, image processing and quality assurance of angiography devices. Determination of radiation exposure and factors affecting exposure and radiation protection measures in angiography examinations and interventions
