Graduated radiographers are able to work in x-ray, nuclear medicine, ultrasound and magnetic resonance examinations and in interventions and in nuclear medicine treatments and in radiation therapy concerning clients/patients with different age and diseases. In the examinations and interventions radiographers are able to take care and advice the client/patient according to her/his personal needs. Radiographers can apply imaging and radiation therapy methods so that the examination and treatment promotes client's/patient’s health. Radiographers know the effects of the radiation and master the use of radiation in health care and are able to perform quality assurance work. Graduated radiographers possess also skills of sustainable development, internationality, entrepreneurship, communication and interaction, innovation and development activity in order to perform those in their work.
The curriculum consist of studies in radiography and radiation therapy (use of radiation, x-ray, nuclear medicine, ultrasound and magnetic resonance examinations, radiation therapy), and the studies concerning basic skills of health care (clinical nursing, first aid, microbiology, anatomy), communication studies (Finnish, Swedish, English), research and development studies (research and development work, entrepreneurship, work community skills) and professional training. The studies include the bachelor's thesis.
Studies consist of academic studies and professional training. Academic knowledge is multiscientific and it uses knowledge from radiography, nursing science, natural and medical sciences and sociologic and behavioral sciences. During the studies it is important to learn to apply the knowledge in client's/patients' examinations and interventions. This is emphasized especially in professional training. Teaching methods are used versatile in academic studies. You learn to use x-rays safely, to guide and care clients/patients in examinations and interventions and quality assurance in the radiological department of the university.
Professional training consist of training in all imaging and radiation therapy contexts which are located in basic health care and in specialized health care and in private clinics. Practical placements are situated in Oulu area and outside of it all over in Finland. Performing the studies means that you are able to have your practical training also outside Oulu.
Part of the studies is possible to study as exchange studies. The bachelor thesis can be made in cooperation with the working life.
Self-directive and cooperative learning are the main principles in learning. It is expected that you are active and responsible for your own studies. Your studies are supported according to your personal learning plan.
Graduated students are certified as radiographers. They are able to work client-oriented in radiography and radiation therapy and able to justify their work according to professional knowledge. Most of the radiographers work in hospitals, health care centeres and in private clinics. Radiographers work either independently or as a team member.
Radiographers' professional competency consist of skills of patient caring and guidance, skills in imaging examinations and interventions, skills in radiation therapy, skills in safe use of x-rays and quality assurance. Safety is emphasized in many ways in radiographers’ work, e.g. in the use of imaging equipments.
Most of the graduates have found their job from the north of Finland and are promoting health and well-being of the people living in the northern area of Finland. Radiographers are also working in imaging device firms, industry and environmental health care.

Curriculum includes studies, which must be passed in English. Tasks regarding professional training base on items from the working life.
