Objectives | The student has gained basic knowledge about microbes, their impact on human life, transmission modes and pathogenesis of infections. The student has knowledge about the natural defence system of the body and the ways how to increase the efficiency of it. The student has an understanding of the importance of microbiology for the health care field. The student has gained basic knowledge about pathology and changes in the body caused by diseases as well as the collection and proper handling of tissue specimens and cell samples. The student has an understanding of the impact of pathology laboratory services on the overall nursing care of patients. |
Content | Groups of microbes. Structure of microbes; reproduction of microbes. Factors affecting the growth of microbes. Factors involved in the development and transmission of infections. The natural defence system of the body. The normal flora of humans. Development of specific immunity. Pathogens: bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Pathology research methods; pathogenesis; cell injury; cell death; death and investigation of the causes of death; inflammation; tissue recovery; blood vessel changes; blood circulation disorders; changes in the size of tissues and organs; tumours; immunologic diseases and hereditary diseases. Infectious and contagious disease. |
