MM00EC19 Organ Theory (3 cr)

Objectives After studying the course, I know the structure of a mechanical organ, the windchests, the structure of the pipe, the types of stops and the mechanisms of auxiliary devices. I know how to tune organ reed pipes and I am capable of small-scale maintenance procedures. I also know other construction types: pneumatic, electro-pneumatic and electric. I also know the main features of the history of organ building and organ music, as well as current trends.
Content The most common types of organ structure, and the history of organ construction and organ music. The most common faults in mechanical organs and their repair. Visits to the inside of various instruments. Tuning practice.

Evaluation Criteria

pass/fail
Active participation in teaching and tuning practice. Final exam from the structure and history section. The technical understanding of the organ and knowledge of the structure required of the cantor as criteria for acceptance.
