The degree of music pedagogue gives you the skills to work in various tasks in the music industry. A music pedagogue's studies consist of examination of competence, evaluation, observation and the student's own work. The studies are made up of common basic studies and profile studies that enable the student's individual study path. At the end of the studies, concrete preparations are made for the transition to working life.
The education includes 60 credits of vocational teacher pedagogical studies, which are implemented in cooperation with the Oulu Vocational Teacher Training College. Pedagogical studies include teaching practice, which the student can complete in working life, or music pedagogy training at the own Johtosävel music school. The thesis done at the end of the studies can be a pedagogical or artistic research work and it is closely related to professional development and growth.
Graduates of the music pedagogy degree can work in vocational music education, basic art education, liberal arts work and other tasks requiring expertise in music pedagogy, as well as as entrepreneurs. Those who have completed the profile studies of music pedagogue and cantor will also be qualified to work as a cantor in parishes. Music pedagogues can also work as musicians.
Teaching is organized as individual, group and online teaching. Teaching methods are flexible and responsive to individual situations.
It is possible to complete part of the studies in an international student exchange, where the student can deepen his knowledge of his field and gain valuable experience of different cultures.
