MM00EC06	Instruments, Instrumentation and Arranging (6 cr)

Objectives	After completing the course, I have been introduced to the sound fields and characteristics of instruments used in rhythm and entertainment music, I have adopted different arrangement techniques and I am able to create my own small ensemble arrangement.
Content	The teaching consists of lecture-based classes that involve the student, in which the sounds, transpositions and characterizations of the instruments are familiarized, small ensemble and larger orchestra arrangements are listened to from different rhythm music records, which are analyzed with the help of sheet music examples, and rehearsals and arrangements are made for different ensembles as independent work. The focus is on wind arrangements for 2-5 blowers, arranging for a small string orchestra and writing rhythm sections. Those who have advanced can make a big band arrangement, and the rest of the work is an arrangement of a string orchestra or a rhythm music ensemble with a wind section.
Recommended optional programme components	If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods	Participation in contact teaching. Absences should be compensated by additional tasks. Other ways of completing the course must always be negotiated separately with the teacher.

Evaluation Criteria	pass/fail The assessment (pass/fail) is based on attending classes, doing homework and possible group work, as well as completing the thesis adaptation. Passed: The student has been present at the classes, completes the thesis successfully on schedule and completes all the homework given.
