Objectives | Classical instrument Major: Students are capable of identifying the styles and the main features and lines of development of the genres of Western music. Pop/jazz Music Major: Students have the the general knowledge of rhythm music required for work as a pop/jazz pedagogue. They are able to perceive current musical phenomena in their historical and geographical context. |
Content | Classical instrument Major: Description of the fundamentals of music history, early Western music from the Antiquity to Romanticism. Pop/jazz Music Major: The course covers the main stylistic trends of rhythm music from the 19th to 21st century. African traditional music, 19th century European dance music, blues, ragtime, the different stylistic periods of jazz from Dixieland to swing, country & western, Brasilian music, afro-cuban music, Caribbean. 50¿s-60¿s rock, siger-songwriter -tradition, folk rock, psychedelic rock, history of r&b and soul from 40¿s to present day, Spanish Southern America, European folk music. Lectures, listening exercises, playing exercises, introductory presentations by students. |
