Objectives | Classical instrument Major: Student has an understanding of the basics of harmony and voice leading in different musical genres from the 16th century to our time from the point of view of classical music. Student recognizes the most common small-scale forms in tonal music. Students have acquired the ability to write tonal, counterpart and harmonic successions. Pop/jazz Music Major: The student understands the basic principles of theory of improvisation. The student can apply his/her understanding of harmony, melody and form in impovisation and arranging. |
Content | Classical instrument Major: Harmony and counterpoint in 16th to 20th century style. Pop/jazz Music Major: Recap of the basics of tonal and modal harmony; Symmetrical scales; Bebop-improvisation; chordal and noin-chordal tones; Pattern approach and arpeggios; Playing out; Motivic development; Voice leading in jazz harmony. Lectures and improvisation lessons. |
