Description


OS00BV99 Basics of Evidence Based Nursing - Practical training (15 cr)
Prerequisites The student has completed (or has equivalent competence):
- Basics of Nursing
- Basics of Medication Administration
- Anatomy and Physiology: Part 1: Basic Structures and Functions
- Basics of Nursing - Practical Training (or equivalent work experience)

Passed the examinations in Pharmaceutical Calculation in the course Fundamentals of Pharmaceutical Care

If the prerequisites are not met, the student will not be able to enter the internship.
Objectives The Student
- takes responsibility for clinical nursing acting as a student.
- acts at different stages of the nursing process, taking patient safety into account.
- recognizes lifelessness and acts according to the instructions which receives in a resuscitation situation.
- acts in a multiprofessional care team with situational awareness and reports and consults systematically.
Content 1. Clinical nursing - Practical Training 12 CR
2. Teamwork and leading in emergency situations 3 CR
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods Before the traineeship, the student will draw up learning objectives for the traineeship. During the placement, the student will complete the learning assignments for the placement and use the Medicines Care Passport.
At the end of the placement, the student will complete a self-assessment.
The student will demonstrate his/her competence through pre-assignments, simulations and theoretical examinations.
Execution methods The student
- make full use of the learning opportunities offered by the training place
- acquires and uses evidence-based knowledge.
- Actively collects feedback on their development and competence and modifies their activities as necessary in response to feedback.
The traineeships will mainly take place in specialised hospital wards or in a health centre hospital in the acute ward and in the surgical/operative unit.

- assess the patient's care needs and changes in them, as well as the effectiveness of care at different stages of the disease.
- examines the patient systematically.
- uses appropriate treatment methods when caring for a patient.
- acts according to the principles of infection control in nursing.
- justifies the implementation of nursing activities appropriately and the justification is generally based on research or good nursing practice.
- recognises lifelessness and acts according to the instructions which receives in a resuscitation situation.
- works in a multidisciplinary care team with situational awareness and reports and consults systematically.

Further Information The student must present a criminal record to the Clinical Nurse Educator upon request before the start of this course. The criminal record must not be older than 6 months. Accreditation of prior learning and work experience (AHOT):
Clinical practice 12 credits - 6 credits can be credited from the implementation part if the student has worked as a prcatical nurse in an internal medicine/surgical nursing/emergency care/health care/surgical ward for at least 2 years.
EVIDENCE OF COMPETENCE:
The student will prepare a written report (2-3 pages) based on his/her work experience, in which he/she reviews/reflects on the competences/improvement needs acquired in the work in relation to the objectives of the course.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS: The student returns the assignment to the course supervisor as an electronic version by the end of the semester in which the internship would have taken place according to the OPS.The assignment follows the Oamk thesis guidelines (e.g. language, text references, bibliography, layout). NOTE! The application for an assignment is not submitted via eHops, but is agreed with the tutor teacher and the teacher responsible for the internship is informed, who will give the marks. The support of the tutor responsible for the course is essential.
