OK00BY15 Post-Natal Midwifery Training (12 cr)
Prerequisites The student has also completed at least 140 CR in nursing degree programs.
Objectives Student
- can independently plan, implement and evaluate the care of the mother, family and newborn during the childbearing period.
- can anticipate, identify and treat changes in the condition of the woman who gave birth, the newborn and the family.
- can guide and support the family in breastfeeding and newborn nutrition.
- can guide the family in early interaction and neonatal care.

- participates in the nursing of newborns requiring special observation/ enhanced care as part of a multiprofessional team.
- knows how to implement safe pharmacotherapy under guidance.
Content Practical training appr. 8 weeks in postpartum units with women, healthy newborns and families and also with newborns requiring intensive care. Units that meet the requirements of the EU-directives. Student Midwife's Workbook /cases.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods I apply my skills in my practical training and develop myself as a professional.
I reflect on my skills, my work and my professional growth in a learning diary.
Execution methods I develop my skills by working in units that require midwifery skills.
I evaluate my own work and skills during my practical training and also develop my practice based on the feedback I receive
I achieve the professional competence in midwifery required by the EU Directives in practical training placements.
In addition to the qualitative objectives, I will achieve the quantitative objectives (minimum number of EU directives for the practical training).

Further Information Recognition of Prior Learning:
Relevant work experience (1 year of work experience as a nurse). Different possibilities to recognise and assess prior learning and meet the acquired competences is to be planned with the teacher in charge of the course.

Implementation of Practical training needs to planned in advance if it takes place in an employment relationship.
