Description


OK00BY14 Practical Training in Midwifery Care during Childbirth (21 cr)
Prerequisites The student has completed at least 140 CR credits in nursing degree programs or equivalent knowledge.

Midwifery Care of Mother and Family during Childbirth -course needs to be passed before attending Practical Training in Midwifery Care during Childbirth
Objectives part 1)
Student
- is able to create a safe and reliable relationship with mother/ family during child birth
- is able to plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care during low-risk childbirth in a patient-centered and supportive way
- knows how to use low-risk birth monitoring and care method skills and can independently and safely handle low-risk birth.
- knows how to observe and take care of newborn and is able to act in newborn's well-being and life-threatening situations
- uses self-assessment in a realistic way and knows how to develop own working methods
- knows how to act aseptically and implements safe medication under supervision

part 2)
Student
- can independently create a safe and reliable relationship with the woman and family during childbirth also in challenging situations
- manages monitoring and care method skills during low-risk birth
- is able to predict and identify if low-risk birth turns into a high-risk birth and knows how to function in an adequate way in suddenly changing situations
- can independently manage low-risk childbirth in a patient-centered and supportive way and is able to work in a high-risk childbirth as a member of interprofessional team
- understands the impact of suddenly changing events for families during childbirth and is able to support parents in such situations.
- is able to evaluate the significance of childbirth to the well-being of woman, newborn and the whole family
- acts in a responsible way and is sensitive to the influence she/ he has over women's birth experience.
- knows the observation and care of newborn and is able to act in newborn's well-being and life-threatening situations. Knows how to resuscitate newborn as a member of interprofessional team.
- knows how to act aseptically and implements safe medication under supervision.
- uses self-assessment in a critical way and knows how to develop own working methods
Content 1) Practical Training I, 9 CR
2) Practical Training II, 12 CR

Approximately 14 weeks of practical training under supervision on delivery ward, in units that meet the requirements of the EU-directives. Implementation (lengths) of the practical training may vary. In the very end of practical training practical proficiency evaluation. Student Midwife's Workbook /cases.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.

Execution methods I develop my skills by working in units that require midwifery skills.

I achieve the professional competence in midwifery required by the EU Directives in practical training placements.
In addition to the qualitative objectives, I will achieve the quantitative objectives (minimum number of EU directives for the practical training).

- evaluates one's own professional and nursing ethics.
