The master degree programme in of welding management has been designed to professionals who work in the expert tasks, middle management, primarily the sales or teaching of the field. The studies give students the newest and profound information of welding and readiness to work in the developing tasks and management tasks. The core of the degree programme is a practice-oriented point of view to welding management. The studies give preconditions for the beginning of the entrepreneurship. The knowledge objectives of the degree have been specified together with the working life. The education is down-to-earth and offers solutions to the changing needs for the business world. After taking the Master’s degree of welding the student also has a display from his / her analysis abilities and experience of the demanding development project of the field. It is expected that the chosen student group will be professionals who are familiar with welding and who have good preconditions to carry out the challenging development project of welding. The education prepares for working, among others, in the management of welding/ developing tasks and as an entrepreneur.

The study programme consists of 60 ECTS and it can be divided into three parts: Advanced professional competences 15 ECTS, Advanced generic competences 15 ECTS and thesis 30 ECTS. The advance professional studies consist of WEB-based education and a classroom teaching period in Oulu (the reaching of the IWS validity requires a number of classroom education days). The classroom education days will be carried out during a school year. Advance generic competences 15 ECTS is planned to be flexible in terms of time and place. Monthly videoconferences (3 h/a month) concerning the progress of studies, especially thesis.

The IWS education is defined by the international welding organisation IIW. In the planning of the teaching attention has been paid to the needs of the companies of welding in Northern Finland, among others for making the IWS validity possible.

The study programme will consist of 60 ECTS and it can be divided into three parts:

Advanced generic competences 15 ECTS,
Thesis 30 ECTS.
The advanced professional competences studies provide state-of-the-art and in-depth knowledge in the field of welding technology as well as improve the capacity for development and leadership positions. Attending these studies is planned to be flexible in terms of time and place. The study programme is based on a pragmatic approach which is in particular applied in the advanced professional studies. Students are in charge of planning, testing as well as implementation of a development project stemming from real life situations and in this way they develop as independent innovators.
