SU00BQ14 Researching by Developing (10 cr)
Prerequisites No prerequisites needed.
Objectives Introductions of research working 2 cr
The student is able to describe evidence based practice, the starting points for a study, basic concepts and the research process. The student can search, read and critically evaluate research findings.

Introductions of project working 2 cr
The student knows the characteristics and the leading principles of project work and the student is able to apply them to develop skills in her/his professional field.

Qualitative research methods 3 cr
Student is able to plan and execute the data collection of qualitative research. Student can apply methods of qualitative data analysis and interpret qualitative data. Student is able to write a qualitative research report. Student is capable to evaluate ethical issues reliability of qualitative research.

Quantitative Research Methods 3 cr
Student is able to plan the data collection of quantitative research and to implement an online survey. He is able to use independently online survey and analysis tool to process and analyse the data. Student can apply statistical methods and interpret the results. He can use basic methods of statistical deduction in the analysis of research problems. Student is able to write a quantitative research report. Student is capable to evaluate ethical issues and reliability of quantitative research.
Content Introductions of research working 2 cr
Basis of evidence based practice, quantitative and qualitative research. Literature review as a part of the research process and as a research method. The meaning of scientific knowledge in practice and in education, different types of knowledge. Research process.

Introductions of project working 2 cr
Project structure and planning. Project management and project organization. Work breakdown structure. Project planning tools and methods. Schedule, resources, budget, tasks, division of work and risk analysis. Project communications and documentation. Development methods.

Qualitative research methods 3 cr
The responsible conduct of research. The methods for qualitative data collection and analysis. Ethical considerations in qualitative research. Reliability and validity in qualitative research.

Quantitative Research Methods 3 cr
Basic concepts of statistics. Steps of the quantitative research process. Data collection. How to use an online survey and analysis tool. Analysis methods and choice of the suitable method. Comparison of groups, and repeated measures. Examination of correlation. Ethical considerations in quantitative research. Reliability and validity in quantitative research. Reporting of results.
