Description


O4053HO Medical Studies II (3 cr)
Prerequisites Major Public Health Problems 3 cr O4051HO or equivalent knowledge.
Objectives The student knows the most common diseases of the eye and ear and the medical care to them. The student knows the most common dermatologic diseases and the medical treatment of them. The student can classify the most common gynaecological diseases, explain their characteric features and the medical care of them and apply approriate pharmacological knowledge. The student knows the most common diseases and complications connected to pregnancy, child birth and puerperium, and the medical care of them. The student knows the most common paediatric diseases and applies pharmacological knowlegde and explains the medical care of them.
The student can name the most common kidney and urinary tract diseases, explain their characteristic features and the medical care of them.
Content Ophthalmic diseases: infections, anomalies in eye position, cataract, macular degeneration, glaucoma, refractive errors. Diseases of ear: infections, defected hearing, dizziness. Dermatological diseases: acne and other skin infections, eczema, psoriasis. Gynaecology ja obstetrics: the most common gynaecological infections, endometriosis, prolapses, tumours, disorders during pregnancy and puerperium. Paediatrics: paediatric respiratory diseases, asthma, fever, urinary tract infections, diarrhoea, vomiting, disturbances of liquid balance, diabetes. Kidney and urinary tract diseases: pyelonefritis, glomerulonefritis, diabetic nephropathy, obstruction,renal failure.

Further Information RPL (whole course): student has completed a course of similar content and credits in another university. Demonstration of competence: official diploma and written essay in which the student evaluates his/her competence in reference to the aims of the course. The written paper is 2-3 pages and it is sent to the teacher in charge of the course.
RPL (part of the course): the student has completed studies of part of the course in another university or has completed additional education of the content of this course after approriate prior vocational training. Demonstration of competence: official diploma and written assignment in which the student reviews his/her competence regarding the aims of the course. The paper is submitted to the teacher in charge of the course. The extent of the paper and equivalance of credits are evaluated by the teacher. The competence can also be assessed in a test.
Nb! RPL is not requested by eHops. The teacher marks the grade in the register when the demonstration of competence is approved.
