O0025ST | Basics of Microbiology and Infection Control (3 cr) |
Prerequisites | The student has passed the course of Basics of Nursing. A Part of the studies will be Web-based studies. |
Objectives | Student gains the basic knowledge of microbes and understands their impact on human life. He/she is aware of the body¿s defence system and the strengthening of it. Student understands the importance of microbiology in the field of health care. He/she knows the spread of microbes and the development of infections. Student knows the prevention against microbes in a nursing environment. |
Content | Basic groups of microbes; Structure and development of microbes; Factors that promote the growth of microbes; Defence system; Normal flora; Specific immunity; Bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites that cause diseases. Hand and personal hygiene: cleaning, disinfection and sterilization; Nutrition and hygiene; Aseptics; Debris service; Isolation and safety; Defence against infection in patient care. |
