7E00BR48 Basic Level Prehospital Emergency Care II (5 cr)
Prerequisites Basic Level Prehospital Emergency Care I, or corresponding knowledge
Objectives Student is able to determine a patient’s status by performing primary and secondary physical assessments using appropriate assessment strategies in a timely and efficient manner. Student can determine the need for prehospital treatment of basic level emergency care, reflect on alternative treatments and justify his/her choice of treatment on the basis of research and expertise. Student is able to operate according to patient care protocols of basic level emergency care. Student can establish patient’s treatment and transport priorities based on assessment findings and reliable knowledge. Student is capable to report and document patient information completely and accurately and to apply structured handover tool ISBAR in handover to A&E and when consulting the emergency physician. Student demonstrates ability to give counselling to patients and manage situations requiring interprofessional collaboration. Student is able to lead the team on scene and apply CRM skills. Student is able to exhibit pro-fessional behavior in exercise and other learning situations. Student is able to make self and peer assessment.
Content Basic level prehospital emergency care simulation exercises: acutely ill and injured patients. Prehospital care on-scene and during trans-portation. Decision making process at basic level. Situation awareness and situation management. CRM. Working in pairs, team work, communication and leadership in prehospital emergency situations. Documentation of the prehospital care. Clinical handover and con-sultation. Psychosocial help, information and counselling at each step of the emergency care process. Feedback. Ethical and legal issues in emergency care at basic level.
