Prerequisites | Basics of Prehospital Emergency Care and Ethics, Practical Training in Basics of Prehospital Emergency Care, Basics of Clinical Nursing, Pharmacology and Drug Therapy or corresponding knowledge. |
Objectives | Student can provide patient-oriented emergency care and interact with patients. Student is able to give prehospital emergency care at basic level as a part of the overall medical care. Student is able to independently interview patients, make the structured primary and secondary examinations and measurements and choose appropriate treatments. Student is able to work in pairs. While on duty, the student demonstrates ability to check off the vehicle and patient care equipment at the beginning and the end of his/her work shift. Student is able to deal with members of the public and family members present at the scene. Student's work and studying is systematic and reliable. Student has knowledge of outpatient acute care, obligations and responsibilities. Student is able to meet diverse patients and their families and caring of persons suddenly affected with a disease. Student is able to interview patients, make examinations and measurements systematically and choose appropriate treatments.Student has skill to interact and give counselling to patients and their relatives in emergency department. The student participates in decision making concerning the patients care and is able to justify his/her actions. |
Content | Basic level prehospital emergency care lectures and simulation exercises: Prehospital basic level emergency care services. Preparedness of an ambulance and its equipment. Patient and work safety. Assessing the condition of patients who are injured or taken ill suddenly. Structured five steps examination. Focused and effective patient interviews. Making work diagnosis. Prehospital care on scene: procedures in basic level prehospital emergency care. Ongoing assessment of treatment response. Documentation and reportingt (ISBAR-tool). Working in pairs. Interprofessional cooperation and competencies. Emergency Response Centre activities (ERC activities). Patient-oriented emergency nursing in emergency department. Proficiency of a paramedic and a nurse; requirements for know-how and responsibilities for outpatient acute care. Needs of persons suddenly affected with a disease and holistic assistance. Patient examinations and measurements. Assistance method in acute care. Documentation and reporting (ISBAR-tool). Exercises in casting and strapping. Interprofessional teamwork in emergency department. |
