7E00BN51 PARCTICAL TRAINING IN BASIC LEVEL PREHOSPITAL EMERGENCY CARE AND PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION (10 cr)
Prerequisites Pass on Basic Level Prehospital Emergency Care, Practical Training in Basic Level Prehospital Care, Pharmacology and Drug Therapy.
Objectives Student is able to practice in accordance with the paramedic profession`s codes of ethics and conduct and meet the obligations and responsibilities of paramedics work at basic level

Practical training 1:
Student can provide patient-oriented care and interact with patients. Student is able to give prehospital emergency care at basic level as a part of the team. Student is able to independently interview patients, make the structured primary and secondary examinations and measurements and choose appropriate treatments. Student is able to work in pairs. Student has ability to utilize medical and communication technology appropriately and safely. Student can apply medical and medication knowledge at basic level.
While on duty, the student demonstrates ability to be able to check off the vehicle and patient care equipment at the beginning and the end of his/her work shift. Student is able to deal with members of the public and family members present at the scene.

Practical training 2 and proficiency test:
Student is able to work systematically with her/his pair and team. Student can provide basic level prehospital care for patients on urgent or when necessary, non-urgent situations. Student has ability to assess patients rapidly and accurately (structured five steps examination), select and use appropriate assessment techniques to determine the patient condition and extent of injury or problem. Student can identify life-threatening conditions and carry out the immediate life saving procedures. Student is capable to formulate a work diagnosis from the analysis of clinical examination, history and vital signs assessment findings. Student can select and utilize appropriate interventions, perform on-going assessments and provide basic level care based on assessment findings. Student is able to assess if there is a need for the ambulance transportation and carry out patients care during transportation. Student is capable to take charge of basic level emergency situations and apply CRM principles when leading the prehospital emergency team. Student use evidence based guidelines to justify safe and effective care. Student is capable to provide a high quality report to medical direction of assessment findings and emergency care given.
Student is capable to interact appropriately with other emergency services and authorities on scene. Student is able to apply correct procedure when reporting patient care carried out to another health care professional
Content Practical training 1: Prehospital basic level emergency care services. Assessing the condition of patients who are injured or taken ill suddenly. Structured five steps examination. Making work diagnosis. Prehospital care on-scene: procedures in basic level prehospital emergency care. Vehicle and patient care equipment check-off. Working in pairs. Multidisciplinary cooperation and competencies. Emergency Response Centre activities (ERC activities).

Practical Training 2: Safe patient care and work safety on scene and during transportation. Treatment decisions based on systematic scene assessment and patient assessment. Prehospital care on-scene and during transportation. Ongoing assessment and procedures. Scene management and situation management. Effective communication and teamwork, CRM. Leadership and followership on emergency scene. Driving an ambulance. Basic Fire and Rescue techniques.

Proficiency examination: Practice - based learning portfolio, written examination, clinical simulation examination.
