The Degree Programme in Energy Technology and Circular Economy seeks to address the future needs of changing external environment of engineering. The whole energy sector is going through a transformation and circular economy concepts are becoming more prominent. Students can choose to specialize either in energy technology of circular economy. Basic studies in mathematics and natural sciences will provide the basis to learn the key concepts. In addition, capabilities to work in projects and communication skills are highlighted. The studies are organized in close collaboration with businesses and work life orientation is essential. Most of thesis’s are commissioned by companies or other organizations.

Studies in Energy Technology focuses on energy production plants operations, use and distribution of energy, and control and automation systems. Studies will offer tools to understand and apply the principles of effective and economical use of energy from individual, societal, and global perspective. An essential part of the studies is to govern the conventional and modern energy systems as well as combining them into optimal systems. Furthermore, students will be able to recognize solutions arising from circular economy concepts. Studies in Energy Technology will provide the qualification to work as a boiler plant supervisor.

Studies in Circular Economy orientate towards industrial production processes, material flows, and analysis methods. Studies will provide an understanding about principles of circular economy and business models, life cycle analysis, and analysis of environmental impacts. Students will be able to analyze and develop sustainable use of material and energy flows.

After graduation, career opportunities are wide including roles as a designer, operation controller, specialist, and managerial positions in the field of energy and environmental technology. Potential workplaces are energy production plants, water treatment facilities, waste management companies, industrial companies, technical departments of commune, environmental centers, companies in energy sector, and design companies.
