MP00CY43 Service Design and Innovation Management (10 cr)
Prerequisites -
Objectives After completing the course, the student is able to a) understand the principles of design thinking and service design, use basic tools of service design and have an understanding of other related tools, and b) identify key management issues, concepts and tools for use to effectively support innovation within an organization.

Create a project plan that follows the principles of design thinking and service design process. Develop and present a project using the design methods and theory learned throughout the course. Alternatively, the student can report a service design project that he has done outside school, e.g. at work.
Identify and analyse elements of a service ecosystem and their interaction with each other.
Identify the current state of the service and the organization behind it. Identify development needs and goals.
Dive into the world of current and/or future service users. Understand the needs and value of the service for the user.
Use service design tools and methods to develop a new service solution. Tailor the used set of tools to match the problem at hand.
Create a plan for prototyping, testing and implementation of the new service.
Identify how team roles and interaction can help in innovation.
Content Principles of design thinking and the basic process of a service design project
Recognition of essential characteristics of services.
Ability to look at the service from social, technological and business perspectives
User/customer understanding
The use of essential methods and tools (e.g. touch points, customer path, service blueprint, personas), and an understanding that there are many more available.
Modeling and testing of a news service design.
Team roles and dynamic, and other issues relating to the creation and development of innovations within companies, organizations and startups.
Recommended optional programme components If necessary, the student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.
Accomplishment methods Online studies and assignments.
Execution methods Participation in the online course or, alternatively, the student can report a project that s/he has done outside school, e.g. at work. The project can compensate a part of or the whole course.
