Curricula

The student understands the Oulu UAS learning environment with its various services, is able to plan his/her studies (and career) and is able to communicate and socialize in the international student body. Thus, the student has adequate intercultural, language and computer skills. Moreover, the student knows the basics of various business skills, and principles of international trade and business development.

Finnish Degree Students in DIB are required (compulsory requirement) to study a minimum of 8 ECTS of a foreign language (Foreign Language I, 4 ECTS + Foreign Language II, 4 ECTS) as a part of their Studies in International Core Competences section (the section is 60 ECTS in total).

This foreign language may not be English.

The choice of the compulsory foreign language will be made on the basis of language assortment (language courses) made available for the particular Academic Year by Oulu UAS.

If the student wishes to continue to study the same language further (Foreign Language III, 4 ECTS), those ECTS (and any additional language ECTS) will be included in the DIB Free Choice Studies. Kindly note that the section of DIB Free Choice Studies is 15 ECTS in total.

For example:
counted in International Core Competences, 8 ECTS of a compulsory foreign language:
- German I (= Foreign language I), 4 ECTS and
- German II (= Foreign language II), 4 ECTS
and counted in DIB Free Choice studies:
- German III (=Foreign language III), 4 ECTS

Both Finnish and Foreign Degree Students will select this Module consisting of two compulsory areas of competence: KB00BU92 Profiency in Business English, and KB00BU93 Cross-Cultural Considerations.

Finnish Degree Students will select KB00BU94 Swedish Language for Finnish Degree Students, 4 ECTS ("virkamiesruotsi").
Foreign Degree Students will select KB00BU95 Basic Finnish Language for Foreign Degree Students, 4 ECTS (= Basic Finnish Course I).

Finnish Degree Students will select KB00BU94 Swedish Language for Finnish Degree Students, 4 ECTS ("virkamiesruotsi").
Foreign Degree Students will select KB00BU95 Basic Finnish Language for Foreign Degree Students, 4 ECTS (= Basic Finnish Course I).

Studies completed abroad (student exchange). Extent on the basis of the student's personal study plan and recognition decision (e.g. 3-60 credits). The Finnish credits are equivalent to the ECTS credits.

Learning outcomes, contents, assessment methods, learning activities and teaching methods (e.g. exercises and a written/an oral examination/assignment etc.) and literature according to the curriculum of the host institution.

Students are expected to complete a Learning Agreement to be signed by themselves and also by the head of the degree programme and the international co-ordinator of the home institution as well as by the representative(s) of the host institution. The Learning Agreement is an informal contract that indicates precisely what courses students will be studying. It should be completed well before students arrive at their host institution. Subsequent modifications to the Learning Agreement are permitted as long as they are agreed by all parties concerned. At the end of the study period abroad, the host institution will provide the exchange student as well as the sending institution with a Transcript of Records reporting the results obtained in the agreed programme of study. Full academic recognition will be given in the professional studies for the studies completed abroad, as decided upon in the Learning Agreement. The studies will be recognised as an internal part of the curriculum.

The grades obtained abroad will be changed to correspond to the Finnish grading scale 0-5. If the ECTS grading scale (European Credit Transfer System) is used, the ECTS grades correspond to the Finnish grades as follows: A = 5 (excellent), B = 4 (very good), C = 3 (good), D = 2 (satisfactory), E = 1 (sufficient), FX = hylätty (fail), F = hylätty (fail). If this module consists of several courses, the final grade is determined by the mathematical mean value of the grades.

You can include a study period abroad in one of our international partner schools during your 2nd or 3rd year of studying. You can also carry out a practical training period abroad.

DIB students are encouraged to include a Study Abroad period (student exchange abroad) in their Studies either during the 2nd or 3rd Year of DIB studies. This can be done in accordance with a student's Personalized Study Plan (eHOPS), as studies are pre-planned in a separate Learning Agreement with the foreign partner school.
DIB students are also encouraged to carry out Practical Training Period abroad. See student intranet Oiva for further information about internationalisation (applying, criteria, finances etc.).

DIB students can choose courses/study entities also from the selection of Oulu UAS' Free Choice courses (available to Oamk students).

Important: the total number of Free Choice studies in your DIB degree is 15 ECTS in total (see also the DIB Free Choice courses for your DIB group).
