Prerequisites | No prerequisites needed. |
Objectives | The student gains skills in laboratory techniques and methods concerning haematology. The student demonstrates ability to assess the quality of smears and distinguish normal blood cells from pathological ones. The student is able to identify normal cells in aspiration specimens and perform the primary blood banking serological procedures accurately. |
Content | Haematological products and staining. Assessment of blood smears. Bone marrow aspirate. Cells in aspirate fluid. Determination of blood groups: the ABO and Rh systems; antibody screening and types of antibodies; blood compatibility test; blood transfusion services in Finland. Haematology and blood banking: quality assessment and follow-up. |
