Objectives | The student has knowledge of sample collection being a part of the laboratory testing process. The student demonstrates ability to take into consideration the preanalytical factors in different phases of the laboratory testing process. The student masters the general principles of standardized sample collection, and is aware of the safety regulation concerning sample collection. |
Content | Steps of the total laboratory testing process and client-oriented sample collection. Specimen materials. Requisition for a laboratory test and abbreviations. Preanalytical factors; guiding the client; preparation for the samples. Venous blood samples and skin prick test. Urine, stool and mucous membrane biopsy specimen. Microbiological specimen. Aspirate specimen. Guidance to clients. Safety in sample collection. Complications of blood sampling; safeguards and isolation; ergonomic principles for the sample collection. Quality assurance principles for sample collection. |
