Objectives | Students know some typical features of Finnish culture and the basics of Finnish language. Students understand simple everyday spoken and written language and are able to communicate in simple everyday situations of the following themes: - getting to know people: how to greet and present themselves - basic get to know questions and answering them - make -ko questions and yes/no answers - to be, speak, live in a place/country, study, age - food and drinks, ordering in a café/restaurant, shopping - asking prices, thanking, polite phrases - to eat, drink, cost - to have/not have something and basic adjectives - talk about their week and everyday doings, asking time, weekdays, parts of the day, at what time - to go to, come from and be in different places - express locality by verbs mennä, käydä, tulla, olla - hobbies, free time activities, how often you do them - to like and to want to do something - make appointments, agree, disagree - tell about own home city and country |
Content | Basics of Finnish language and culture. Course introduces students to common everyday expressions and grammatical structures needed in basic communication situations. Visits to cultural sites and a baking event may be included in this course. |

Further Information | The course is intended for exchange students of the Erasmus programme and for other exchange students from Oulu UAS's international partner institutions. Teaching takes place in parallel groups during the academic year. Register for the autumn term by the end of August and for the spring term by the beginning of January. |
